Research Interest
Interleukin 1_ (IL-1_) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine released by cells that initiate immune system responses. To prevent the negative effects that occur due to overproduction of this cytokine, research into an IL-1_ binding peptide that would inhibit these processes is being performed. My research will also involve determining the activity of IL-1_ as a result of peptide binding, determining the resulting effects on cell activities during the inflammation process, and incorporating this peptide into a polymer delivery vehicle.
