Innovative Software
David Yaron’s Chem Collective develops computer-based environments, such as a flexible virtual lab, that enable college and high school students to work on activities similar to practicing chemists. Ongoing research evaluates the effectiveness of these environments as well as how to build online communities to further develop digital libraries for science education.
Mark Bier, in collaboration with Joe Grabowski at the University of Pittsburgh, is developing a Virtual Mass Spectrometry Lab (VMSL) that enables students to learn to operate MS at a distance and to explore varied case studies.
