About Margaret I. Johnston

Peggy serves as Senior Program Officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation focusing on TB and HIV vaccine research and development. She serves as senior technical alliance manager for the Collaborative AIDS Vaccine Development (CAVD) program and oversees a portfolio of TB and HIV vaccine grants and contracts. Just prior to joining the foundation in Sept 2011, she had a short stint as an independent consultant working with NIAID to revitalize their clinical trials networks, and with the foundation in support of the CAVD program. Her honors include a Department of Health and Human Services Secretary's Award for Distinguished Service, three NIH Director's Awards, five NIH Merit Awards, and several non-government awards and citations, reflecting her contributions to the fields of HIV/AIDS therapeutics, vaccine and prevention research and development.
